OnePlus 2 - goes on sale without an invite on October 12

OnePlus 2 goes on international open sale

To follow last year’s enormous success attained with the OnePlus One, dubbed flagship killer, the Chinese start-up company OnePlus launched the 2. The OnePlus 2 is currently on sale on the company’s shop online, but only those in posession of an invite (which they can get from friends on the forums) may purchase it. Fans of the company are getting a lucky break, though as OnePlus announced in a forum post that it would be hosting the first open sale for the OnePlus 2. Amazon India will be available for those from India, while international customers can just go to the site and do their shopping there.

The open sale starts at 12 PM PDT on October 12 and lasts for only one hour. Those who want to get in on it should get their profiles on the site up and running and complete their shopping carts and payment information so that when the sale goes live, they only have tap or click a couple of times and their order would be registered. To be honest, we don’t expect the massive sales the OnePlus One managed during its several open flash sales last year.

The OnePlus 2 is not as popular as its predecessor, mostly because fans are still happy with the original unit and the newer variant doesn’t bring enough novelty and upgrade to the table to be worth it at this point. At the same time, releases from Samsung and Apple have both probably taken at least part of the spotlight or rather, hype train, off of OnePlus.

Nonetheless, the OnePlus 2 remains a great smartphone and if the invite system seems discouranging, there are always online shops that sell the OnePlus 2 without an invite. Note that these shops do add a premium to the price tag of the handset, but at least they make it ready to purchase.

For those who would like to get the OnePlus 2, but would rather avoid having to pay a premium in lieu of an invite, the open sale is a good choice. Unfortunately those who aren’t withing the shipping list of the company still have to turn to third-party retailers to get their hands on the OnePlus 2. Have any of you guys thought about participating in the open sale next week?
